Culture, Values, and Spiritual Perspectives: Mobilising Action Towards a Just Food System Transition
How can values be put into action? Faith-based and culturally rooted organizations play a pivotal role in catalyzing efforts toward an equitable shift in our food systems and climate action. The journey toward transforming our food systems into more just and sustainable ones necessitates the active involvement of all stakeholders. Yet, food systems are intricately woven into the fabric of culture, local traditions, ancestrality and spirituality. To ensure a truly equitable transition, it is imperative that these diverse perspectives are incorporated, enhancing the discourse surrounding food systems transformation and equitable transitions. This inclusion also serves to shape and influence the formulation of policies that prioritize the well-being of individuals and communities.

Storytelling as a Tool for Transformative Change in Food Systems
Globally, storytelling has been used as a method of transferring knowledge, culture and tradition for centuries. It remains the heart of communities, and community-led change must engage in dialogues and narratives brought forth by local engagement. In the modern context of climate change, storytelling has the capacity to transform public perceptions on the climate crisis and its relations to the agrifood systems. Maintaining oral history and narration ensures engaging in communities through a culturally-centric approach, and thus, ensures our agrifood systems remain culturally conscious and driven.

Through our event “Storytelling as a Tool for Transformative Change in Food Systems” we aim to address this intersection of storytelling and food systems through dialogue engaging diverse panelists. Our speakers, ranging from different global professions and perspectives will contribute to a Fishbowl Panel to highlight the roles of education, media, and culture as tools of storytelling to create lasting, efficient change in our communities.
